Our 48 Hour Film Garners Eleven Nominations and Four Awards!

Twenty-five talented cast and crew members of Team Mac Attack came together the weekend of May 17-19, 2019 and made a 5-minute film called ScareBnB for the 2019 Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project competition.

LOGLINE: Tanner, a self-help author who committed suicide, along with Hannah and Lily, are spirits who quietly inhabit a bungalow where they died at different times and by different causes. When Jonah, the new homeowner, restores the house and decides to turn the guest room into an Airbnb, the trio of spirits are determined to do anything to get the troublemaker to leave.

Scare BnB was nominated in eleven categories for awards consideration: Best Film;Best Directing; Best Editing; Best Cinematography; Best Acting; Best Actor (Eugene Lindsey); Best Actress (Carly Barnes); Best Use Of Line; Best Costumes; Best Choreography; and Best Musical Score. ScareBnB will screen at the Best Of Awards Show on Wednesday, May 29 at the Museum of Science and History in downtown Jacksonville.

AWARDS UPDATE:
Our film, Scare BnB, received 11 nominations and won 4 awards: 1) Best Film of 2019 Third Place; 2) Best Actor, Eugene Lindsey; 3) Best Score (Paul Bathen, Damien Starkey and Shawn K. Clement); and 4) Best Costumes, (created by our talented cast—Carly Barnes, Jaclyn Miller, Eugene Lindsey and Rich Pintello).

Over twenty filmmaking teams competed in this year’s 48HFP. About 7:00 p.m. on Friday night of the competition during the launch party held at Hemming Plaza in downtown Jacksonville, teams chose a genre by chance with the spin of a wheel.

All teams were required to include these elements in their films: 1) a character named Tanner or Tanya Thistlewhite, a self-help author; 2) a folding chair as a prop and 3) the following line of dialogue: “I’m looking for something special.” OR “I am looking for something special.”

Based on our chosen location (my house), cast commitments and genre, I started writing the film. About two hours later, I completed a 5-page script. By that time most of our cast members were sitting in my living room with all our team’s key department heads. We did a table read so I could hear the dialogue. I like to tweak dialogue for the actors since writing a script so fast sometimes delivers awkward dialogue. There were a couple of changes, but nothing major. And I asked if anyone else had a great title. One of our production assistants, Darlyn Finch Kuhn, gets credit for a brilliant title!

Our team met around 8:30-9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at our location (my house) and started production which ran until 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Our editor, Josh Hansbrough, arrived around 10am and took over my office space to begin the editing process. He was still editing when the team went home at 2am and I went to bed. When I got up about 6:30 a.m., I heard Josh heading into my guest room (his lodgings for the night) to sleep until 9:30 a.m. Before he allowed his head to hit a pillow, he had a rough cut done of the film. After Josh woke up, Tall Paul Bathen (our director) came over and he helped with the edit, as well as composed a closing credits song which is wrote and recorded in the guest room. He also reworked closing credits which worked with the brilliant graphics delivered to us by Matt Ferris, our opening animated Mac Attack logo and very cool Scare BnB title. Our team leader and executive producer, Mac MacDonald, delivered the film on time, on thumb drives to the Drop Off Party at Hemming Plaza at about 7:00 p.m.

We heard on Monday, May 27 that Scare BnB was nominated in eleven categories. We’ll find out tonight if we have any awards. Everyone who completed a 48HFP film are winners!
